Healthcare Professionals to Provide Free Heart Health Screenings and Testing

Jacksonville, Florida, February 16, 2010 -- Heart disease is the number-one killer of women in America, affecting one out of every four women. To help education women about heart disease and how to prevent it, Baptist Health will present the Women's Heart Connection, a free heart screening event that will test and screen women's heart health. The Women's Heart Connection will take place on Saturday, February 27, 2010, from 9 am until 4 pm at the Regency Square Mall Expo Center, near Sears and Puppy Village in the former Montgomery Ward building.

Baptist Health professionals will provide free screenings at the event (which are valued at more than $250 if provided in a doctor's office). The screenings will include cholesterol, blood glucose levels, blood pressure and body mass index and counselors will be available to discuss screening results.

This event will also offer fun fitness and cooking demonstrations, free massages, healthy food samples and more than 50 local exhibitors, including Mary Kay Cosmetics, Pampered Chef, and the Paul Mitchell School.

"Baptist Health is pleased to offer heart health screenings free of charge for women in our community who are not able to receive regular check-ups," says Michael Lanier, vice president for Community Health, Baptist Health. "Knowing your numbers -- cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure and body mass index -- is critical to heart disease prevention because it can help you start to learn about what you can do to get healthy. Through Women's Heart Connection, participants will be able to get this vital information that is so important to their health."

Registration is recommended. To register for this free event, please call 904.718.4595, or register online at www.ebaptisthealth.com/womenshealth.
