Baptist South Neurologist Gregory Sengstock, MD, PhD, Joins Baptist Health's Baptist Neurology Group
Jacksonville, Florida, April 19, 2010 -- Baptist South Neurologist Gregory Sengstock, MD, PhD, has joined Baptist Neurology Group, a premier neurology practice in Northeast Florida composed of experienced Jacksonville neurologists. The new practice will now offer four locations in Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach, with plans to add new sites in the future. This partnership is the result of a merging of existing neurology practices, and the recruitment of three neurologists to Jacksonville.
Dr. Sengstock has been in private neurology practice serving the Jacksonville area since 2000. Dr. Sengstock has served as medical director of the Stroke Center at Baptist Medical Center South. Dr. Sengstock joins other colleagues in the Baptist Neurology Group who include epileptologist Georgia Gianakakos, MD; Sean Orr, MD, chief of Neurology and medical director of the Stroke Center at Baptist Medical Center Downtown; Amy Jarvis, MD; Thomas Snyder, MD, Chief of Neurology at Baptist Medical Center Beaches; Syed Asad, MD; Carlos Gama, MD, Christopher Potter, MD; and Karen Thalinger, MD.
Dr. Sengstock earned his medical degree at the University of South Florida in Tampa along with his doctorate degree in Neurophysiology (degenerative brain disorders). He completed his internship at Portsmouth Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia, and his neurology residency at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. He is board certified in neurology and vascular neurology. Additionally, he is board certified in electrodiagnostic medicine and has a special interest in neuromuscular and electrophysiology cases.
"I have had a long affiliation with Baptist and it is a natural that I, along with Baptist South, become associated with the formation of Baptist Neurology Group," says Dr. Sengstock. "Joining forces allows us to have areas of specialization that are necessary for the community. It also allows us to partner with Baptist Health to survive anticipated tough economic times in the future. I am excited to be part of this group."
Thomas Snyder, MD, with the Beaches office of Baptist Neurology Group said Dr. Sengstock is a welcome addition. "He is an experienced and well-qualified neurologist who has been providing care to the patients of Baptist South since its establishment in 2005," said Dr. Snyder. "We're happy to have a physician with his expertise join our group."
Because of their affiliation with Baptist Health, Baptist Neurology Group neurologists have access to all of the health system's services and subspecialists. These include neurosurgeons, pain management specialists, physical medicine and rehabilitation professionals, psychologists and psychiatrists, neuroimaging specialists, endovascular surgeons, sleep disorder specialists and critical care physicians, as well as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, Home Health and other services. In the future, Baptist Medical Center Downtown will house a dedicated inpatient unit for neurology and neurosurgery inpatients.
Other plans for the future of Baptist Neurology Group include subspecialty clinics for headaches and migraines, as well as neuromuscular diseases. Already, Baptist Downtown and Baptist South house Joint Commission-certified Stroke Centers that offer evidence-based protocols, resulting in better patient outcomes. An Epilepsy Center is being developed by Dr. Gianakakos, while a Center for Memory Disorders is being established with the assistance of Mindy Grall, ARNP. The addition of Dr. Sengstock's expertise in electrodiagnostic testing is a much needed area within the Neurology group.
